Words that feel good

May 2007

My 15-year old, special needs daughter was asked to give a short talk in church on Mother's Day.  I wrote a brief poem with short words and sentences in the hope that she could read it by herself.  She read the whole thing and did a great job.  I share the poem below.

I also tried to do extra nice things on mother's day including making breakfast.  That did not go so well.  I share one additional stanza that describes my feeble, breakfast making attempts.

Mother's Day
In my home there is a flower,
That blooms sweetly everyday,
It makes my home feel wonderful,
By sharing its fragrant ways

No matter the outside weather,
Or the challenges in my day,
This flower is always with me,
When I kneel each night to pray.

This flower is not a daisy,
A daffodil or a rose,
My mommy is my flower because
She’s sweeter than all of those

Dedicated to the breakfast fiasco
You are the gorgeous woman,

That our children love the most,

I'm so sorry I melted the butter lid,

And burnt the cinnamon toast.
