When my family and I were walking around our neighborhood to pass out our traditional holiday biscotti, we found that our cute little neighbor girls had left a letter to Santa on the door. It was written by the older girl and she had asked Santa to give her younger sister a ride in his sleigh! She explained why it was so important. Having been a Santa for nearly 20 years now, I felt qualified to write a response so I did. We taped the letter to their door. Here is the letter.
Dear Susie and Jill (names changed):
I heard that you put a letter for me on your door. I am glad you asked about riding in my sleigh. As you can imagine, lots of kids and even parents ask to ride in my sleigh every year! Let me tell you how you can make your own sleigh.
My sleigh is my way of doing good things for others. It is the tool I use to spread the spirit of Christmas. It is Santa’s special gift to the world.
Susie and Jill, you both have your own talents and gifts. All year long, but especially at Christmas, you should use your gifts to help others and to do good. For example, you two can work extra hard at loving each and loving your parents this year.
When you use your own gifts to help others, it is like you are making your own sleigh. That is the way that you can best experience the spirit of Christmas.
Much Love and thanks for being so good this year!
Santa
